Fast, safe Tree Bee control from £75 – survey, treatment, and prevention advice

How We Fix Your Tree Bee Problem

It’s important to have tree bee nests assessed and dealt with by a professional. Tree bees can be very active around roofs, lofts and gardens, and working near a nest without the right protection can lead to painful stings. We use full safety gear, access equipment and professional use only products and techniques that are not available to the public, so the nest can be managed safely and effectively.

What’s Included:
1. Contact & Quick Assessment

Tell us what you’re seeing and where the bees are going in and out (photos or short videos really help). We’ll ask a few quick questions to confirm if they’re likely to be tree bees, advise on any immediate steps to keep people and pets away, and give clear pricing. If treatment is needed, we’ll arrange a prompt visit – often the same day.

2. On Site Survey

Your technician will inspect inside and outside to confirm species, locate the nest and identify entry points. We check rooflines, lofts, soffits, vents, sheds, bird boxes and surrounding garden areas, then talk you through what we find. We’ll explain whether the nest can safely be left alone, whether relocation is an option, or if a treatment is necessary, and agree the plan and costs before any work begins.

3. Treat & Protect

Where treatment is required, we apply carefully targeted professional products directly into the nesting area to minimise risk to people, pets and other wildlife. In suitable situations, we may be able to arrange controlled removal or relocation of the colony. You’ll get clear guidance on what to expect over the next few days, follow-up if needed, and practical tips to reduce the chances of tree bees nesting in the same place again. (If physical removal of the tree bee nest is required, this is charged separately £75 and carried out on a follow-up visit, once the treatment has taken effect and only where the nest is safely accessible.)

How to Identify Tree Bee Infestations

Tree bees (also known as tree bumblebees) are very active in spring and early summer, and you’ll usually notice their behaviour before you ever see the nest itself. Common signs include:

  • Busy flight paths: bees repeatedly flying in and out of a single hole in your roofline, soffits, vents, bird box or brickwork.
  • Loud buzzing: a constant humming or buzzing sound from a loft, cavity wall, ceiling void or porch area.
  • “Cloud” of bees outside: a cluster of bees hovering and circling near one spot (often a bird box or roof edge) – this often looks like a swarm and can be alarming.
  • Bee activity in lofts and outbuildings: bees seen inside loft spaces, garages, sheds or around downpipes and fascia boards.
  • Increased bee traffic in one area of the garden: lots of bees focusing on a doorway, balcony, gutter line or bird nesting box rather than flowers.
  • Stings or defensive behaviour: bees becoming agitated or defensive when people or pets pass close to the entrance point.
  • Pets fixated on one area: dogs or cats repeatedly staring at, pawing or listening at skirting, ceilings or roof access where bees are active.

If you spot several of these signs in the same area, it’s likely you have a tree bee nest on or in your property. Avoid blocking the entrance or disturbing the nest and get professional advice.

Tree bees (tree bumblebees) are important pollinators and most nests only last a few months. In many cases, if the nest is high up, out of the way and not causing a risk to people or pets, it may be safer to leave it alone and just monitor activity. Where a nest is close to doors, windows, play areas or walkways and bees are becoming defensive, professional treatment or managed removal is usually the sensible option.

Tree bees are not naturally aggressive, but they can become very defensive if their nest is knocked, disturbed or exposed to vibration. Nests in soffits, bird boxes, sheds or near busy paths can lead to stings if people, children or pets pass too close. If you’re seeing a lot of activity around a single entrance, it’s best not to stand underneath it or block it, and to get professional advice before trying anything yourself.

No. Tree bees don’t chew wood, bore holes or cause structural damage to buildings. They usually move into existing gaps such as old bird boxes, vents, roof spaces or cavities, use the site for a single season, then the nest dies back and dries out naturally. The main concern is safety and access, not physical damage to the structure.

In some situations, yes – for example when a nest is accessible in a bird box or similar container, it may be possible to remove and relocate it. Where nests are deep in roof spaces or cavity walls, relocation often isn’t safe or practical, and a carefully controlled treatment may be the only realistic option. We’ll always talk you through what’s possible on site and choose the least harmful approach that still keeps everyone safe.

Your safety is the priority. We use professional-grade products applied directly into the nest area, not sprayed randomly around the garden. You’ll be advised to keep children and pets away from the treatment zone while we’re working and for a short period afterwards. We’ll explain exactly what to expect, when it’s safe to use the area again, and any simple precautions you should follow.
